Walk this Way
For once why not start off your week with some fresh air and exercise by joining a circular walk organised by the Blackwater Valley Walker’s Link on Monday 14th November
The walk starts at Lakeside Nature Reserve, an area that was created by mineral extraction during the 1940s and 50s. It follows the Blackwater Valley Path northwards alongside the River Blackwater through Hollybush Park and past Hollybush Hill - an area once used as a landfill site, but now important for wildflowers and butterflies.
Passing North Camp station the route heads through Carrington Road recreation ground before joining the Basingstoke Canal towpath. Following the towpath south for a short stretch the route then branches off to walk along the edges of Ash Ranges for a while before rejoining the towpath and heading towards the aqueduct, which takes the canal over the A331. Just before the aqueduct the route picks up the Blackwater Valley Path again heading back into Lakeside Nature Reserve and returning to the start point.
The circular route, covers about 5 miles, is mostly on surfaced paths, and will be led at a gentle pace, enjoyable for all. So why not to come along and discover this area of the Blackwater Valley?
Please meet at Lakeside Nature Reserve car park, off Lakeside Road, Ash, Surrey GU12 5AL for a 10am start, the walk should last about 2½ hours. Suitable warm/wet weather clothing and footwear are recommended. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
