New Year’s Resolution: Join the Blackwater Valley Walkers’ Link
It’s that time of year again. You’ve eaten and drunk too much and all the festive fare has resulted in a too tight waistband and unwanted pounds. But the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership have a cunning plan to help you get out of the house and walk your way to fitness: the Walkers’ Link.
“Walking is simple and one of the easiest forms of exercise. But people often need to be motivated to go out walking on a regular basis”, explains Christine Reeves of the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership. “The purpose of our newly formed Walkers Link is to encourage people to start walking and then to motivate them to keep walking by providing support through regular newsletter together with ideas of where they can walk as well as details of organised walks in the area.”
Anyone joining the Blackwater Valley Walkers’ Link will be sent a special walkers’ pack containing two walking books: Blackwater Valley Circular Walks, with details of 12 circular walks in the area of varying length, from three to seven miles, and Blackwater Valley Path which provides details of the 23-mile footpath that follows the River Blackwater from its source in Rowhill Nature Reserve to Swallowfield; two wildlife books – one on Butterflies the other on Dragonflies – to introduce walkers to some of the local wildlife; plus details of organised walks in the area. Members will receive regular newsletters through which they can exchange information about suggested walks with other members as well as a special self-guided ‘Walk of the Month’. Through the Walkers Link members will have an opportunity to find a ‘Walking Companion’.
If you would like to go walking to lose weight, keep fit or just to explore the local area , make joining the Blackwater Valley Walkers Link your New Year’s Resolution. Membership costs just £13 a year (reduced rates apply for anyone who already has the books).
