The Many Faces of the Blackwater Valley
Mention Blackwater Valley and what do you think of? The river, lakes, water, trees, bird song, or perhaps the road, railway lines, houses, traffic and noise spring to mind. In fact the Valley offers a combination of all these things and if you would like to see some of these many different faces found here come along and join a guided walk on Saturday 19th April organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership.
Starting from Frimley Lodge Park in Sturt Road the circular walk, takes in part of the Blackwater Valley Path as well as the Basingstoke Canal towpath, and passes through quiet green oases as well as many built-up areas, which illustrate perfectly the area’s contrasting faces. There will be an opportunity to find out how urban development has impacted on the Valley, whilst also discovering some of the many green havens that benefit the wildlife.
The route is flat with easy walking on mostly surfaced paths, covering around five miles and talking about three hours. If you would like to come meet for a 10am start in the car park just inside the main entrance of Frimley Lodge Park off Sturt Road, Mytchett (SU 887 562) on Saturday 19th April. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Children under 16 welcome but should be accompanied by an adult. There is no need to book but ring 01252 331353 or visit www.blackwater-valley.org.uk for further details.
This walk is the third organised by the BV Walkers Link, which aims to provide members with details about the walks and walking groups in the Blackwater Valley area whilst regularly providing advice and encouragement about walking. Membership costs £13pa and anyone interested in finding out more can write to BV Walkers’ Link, Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership, Ash Lock Cottage, Government Road, Aldershot GU11 2PS.
