Volunteer work in the Blackwater Valley

Hay gathering Much of the conservation and practical habitat management tasks in the Valley are carried out by volunteers and there are many different local groups working to improve the Blackwater Valley area.

Although most of our volunteers like to work in the fresh air, there are various other non-task jobs that volunteers can help with. These will vary but include things like carrying out surveys, helping in the office or helping at events we attend.

Why volunteer?

  • Help to protect and enhance the local countryside
  • Get out and about in the fresh air
  • Join in physical activities
  • Work as part of a team
  • Discover more about the area
  • Learn and share skills
  • We also need non-task volunteers to help us in our office

What volunteer groups are there?

When are volunteer tasks held?

Groups meet on a regular basis. Blackwater Valley Countryside Volunteers meet every Tuesday. The site specific groups tend to meet once or twice a month on Sundays but this can vary. See the current work programme.

Iím interested, tell me more

For practical work clothes suitable for gardening are all you need. Tools and protective clothing, if needed will be provided. An experienced and trained leader will be in charge of the day, who will explain what and why.  Why not download a Volunteer Pack and read a bit more about it?

We recommend you contact the group before you turn up so they will be prepared for you and can let you know of any changes to published details.
