My job is to manage the land either side of the A331 Blackwater Valley Road for wildlife and amenity by carrying out improvements in the landscaping. The land I manage is varied, with remnants of semi-ancient chalk grassland, and woodland.
Landscaping along the road has also created new areas of woodland, Hazel coppice, ponds, and floristically rich banks, field, and hedge areas. All need different types of management to improve, maintain, and enhance, for wildlife, landscape and amenity.
Good communication skills are needed with people from various councils; authorities, wildlife trusts, as well as contractors. By educating and informing people, more can and will be done to improve what has already been achieved.
