On the Transport Trail
The weather prior to Thursday 24th February had been dire - dry, dull and extremely wet. So we were delighted that conditions were more benign for our first walk of the year. Relatively clear skies with patches of blue and the sun shining weakly, it was dry and very much milder than in recent days. In fact you could say the conditions were almost perfect for going for a walk.
Good weathers and some pre- publicity in the local papers brought out a crowd of 25 walkers, a very good number. As well as some of t he regulars from the BV Link, we had a number of first-timers. We certainly hope they enjoyed themselves enough to come along to a future event - I was handing out leaflets to make sure they had all the details.
Meeting at Coronation Gardens in Ash, the walk was linked with some of the area’s many types of transport from the Basingstoke Canal and the railways, through to the Blackwater Valley Road and the footpath. Before we set off a press photographer gathered the group together for a photograph or two (look out for it in the local paper). |Pictures done the group headed off down towards the canal where the walk started.
After all the rain we had experienced before the walk it was not surprising that conditions in places along the route were extremely muddy - but at least it wasn’t raining!
