Help us put Snaky on the Map!
Where is it? What is it ? Are we allowed on it? Snaky Lane Community Wildlife Group have taken up the challenge to make sure local people know about their site and that they are welcome to visit.
The Group has been working for the last year to improve the area for wildlife and local people. They have worked with the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust to obtain a grant from the Hanson Environment Fund to surface the footpath through the site and make it easier for local people to use and enjoy. But apparently many local residents can’t find the site!
Mary Langsford the group Treasurer said: “A reader who wrote to The Star newspaper in October saying that they didn’t know where the site was is not alone. Since we started work last September and started to publicise the site and the work we’ve been doing, we’ve had several people comment that they didn’t know that Snaky Lane existed, or that they didn’t know they were allowed to use the site.”
The group are now appealing to local people and businesses for donations to help to put in signs and information boards at the site entrances. “Every little will help,” continued Mary, “our first priority is an information board for the site entrance off Stratford Road.”
If you would like to make a donation to the group or can help in any other way please contact Sue Dent on 01252 331353.
