Rowhill Nature Reserve

Nature reserveCar parking

Blackwater Valley Path through RowhillRowhill Nature Reserve covers
55 acres and was once part of a private estate which produced
timber and bricks. Signs of both of these old industries are still in evidence.

Given Local Nature Reserve status in 1985 it is now returning, in part at least, back into the working wood it had once been. It comprises
mostly mixed deciduous woodland and working coppice and is also the source of the River Blackwater.

As well as the deciduous woodland, which is noted for its Bluebells in spring (pictured), a surprisingly diverse range of other habitats can be found including:

  • heathland
  • meadow
  • sphagnum bog
  • ponds
  • streams
  • pine woodland
