River Blackwater conservation

Major improvements to all the local sewage works have taken place in the last 10 years. This is having a great benefit improving water quality in the river.

Cove Brook

This has recently undergone a major habitat enhancement scheme to replace the over drained, concrete-lined channel with a more natural river form.

Habitat schemes

Various schemes have taken place along the river to create a deeper central channel with shallow margins, this improves wildlife value whilst maintaining the ability to cope with floodwater.

Fish passes

These have been installed in the lower reaches to aid the movement of fish upstream especially important during the spring spawning run.
