Picture Perfect

Although this workshop is now fully booked please contact us to register your interest and we will contact you when we organise another one.

Fiedl Mouse by Chris Bean Everyone appreciates a good wildlife picture, whether it’s a breathtaking view or a close-up of a flower or small mammal.  But actually taking good wildlife pictures requires a certain amount of technical knowhow. So the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust has organised a workshop on Thursday 17th March designed to teach some of the techniques for developing and improving wildlife photography skills. It is also inviting entries for their
first ever photographic competition.

The workshop, aimed at beginners/improvers, will be run by Chris Bean, BVCT Trustee and experienced photographer, who has been taking wildlife pictures for many years. Participants will learn some of the tricks of the trade, with hints and tips on how to achieve good results, and there will be an opportunity to go out into the field to put all newly learnt skills into practice.

Anyone who is keen to improve their photographic skills is welcome to book a place, which costs just £5, by ringing Christine Reeves on 01252 331353.  The workshop will be held at Rowhill Nature Reserve Field Centre, Cranmore Road, Aldershot GU11 3BD on Thursday 17th March, from 10am to 1pm. Participants will need to bring their camera and, if possible, a camera support – such as a tripod or beanbag.

Earlier this year the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust (BVCT) launched a photographic competition to encourage the 300,000 residents of the Blackwater Valley to appreciate the area’s stunning scenery.

Chris Bean, has no doubts about the photogenic qualities of the Valley:

“The Blackwater Valley has some fantastic views - rivers and streams, reed beds and lakes, cottages and farms, bridges and weirs, meadows and fields, pubs and churches, trees and hedgerows - and they all offer opportunities to take exceptional photographs.”

The competition, which is simply to capture "Your Favourite View" of the Valley,  is open until 31st October.  There are two classes: Young Photographer and Adult, anyone can enter up to three images, and entry is completely free. The winner in each class will receive a framed and mounted copy of their winning entry and a book token.

Anyone thinking of entering is advised to check the full details of the competition on the Trust’s website or to contact 01252 331353.
