Woodland Spring Walk
Spring is one of the best times of year to take a walk in the woods, a time when the flowers provide splashes of welcome colour and the trees and shrubs are bursting into life. So give yourself a treat and visit Rowhill Nature Reserve on Sunday 9th April to join a guided Spring walk around this lovely site. Come along and enjoy the woodland flowers, listen to the bird song and find out something about the site’s history and current management.
Covering 55 acres Rowhill Nature Reserve lies on the Surrey/Hampshire borders and consists of mixed woodland, a four-acre meadow, ponds, streams, a bog which forms the source of the River Blackwater and about eight acres of heathland. This very diverse habitat supports a wide variety of flora and fauna and Spring is when the woodland flowers – including wood sorrel, wood anemone, lesser celandine, wood spurge, dog violet, thyme-leaved speedwell, ivy-leaved speedwell and barren strawberry – are at their most impressive.
The event has been organised by Rowhill Nature Reserve Society and walks will be led by their conservation volunteers. Walks will start at 2.30pm from the Field Centre, located off Cranmore Lane, Aldershot by the junction of the A325. Admission is free – though donations are always welcome – and light refreshments will be available. For more information ring 01252 319749.
This event is part of the ‘Discover the Blackwater Valley 2006 Programme’ collated by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership and designed to encourage residents within the Blackwater Valley area to learn more about the countryside on their doorstep.
