The Secret World of a Hedgehog

Hedgehog by Dr Nigel ReeveHedgehogs are probably the most recognisable of British mammals and with their spine-covered bodies, pointed noses and bright black eyes are also the most endearing. But did you know that the 7,000 spines on a hedgehog are actually modified hairs? Their babies are called hoglets? And that an adult hedgehog can travel more than two kilometres each night searching for food?

If you are interested in finding out more fascinating facts about these most distinctive of mammals, then why not come along to The Canal Centre at Mytchett on Thursday 10th February when author and hedgehog authority, Dr Nigel Reeve, be giving an illustrated talk ‘About Hedgehogs’. The talk starts at 8pm

Organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership, the talk is part of their ‘Discover the Blackwater Valley 2005 Programme’ designed to encourage residents within the Blackwater Valley area to learn more about the wildlife and countryside on their doorstep. Anyone interested in the complete programme can visit the website www.blackwater-valley.org.uk or ring 01252 331353.
