Forget the Football!!

If the World Cup is already driving you crazy the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership have the answer. Get out of the house and go for a walk with like-minded people who think there’s more to life than 22 men running after a football!

Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership have just launched their short walks programme that will take place every Friday afternoon, right through the World Cup and beyond until the end of September. Aimed at people who do not consider themselves to be walkers the pace is leisurely, the atmosphere friendly and the purpose – as well as getting away from those football fanatics –  is to encourage people to get out in the fresh air and take some exercise.

“If you’re not a football obsessed fan these short walks are a great excuse for getting out of the house and a very simple way of exercising,” said Christine Reeves, Visitor Promotions Officer for the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership. “As well as the obvious therapeutic benefits of talking about something other than football, people will be in the fresh air, relaxing and walking. Aimed at non-walkers our walks are an effective way of reducing stress levels and a very good way to start the weekend.”

Each week’s starting point will be from with either Aldershot, Ash, Farnborough or Mytchett and booking is not required, you just turn up on the day. The routes are predominantly along surfaced paths or pavements and take place every Friday afternoon starting at 2pm, lasting between 1½- 2 hours.  Flat comfy shoes, a drink and sunscreen or raincoat are recommended. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

If you’re interested the next walk is on Friday 16th June and starts from Farnborough Gate outside the old Courts building, Farnborough Road, Farnborough.
