Take a… FAMILY STROLL
Get some fresh air and exercise with all the family, whilst learning how the local landscape of the area has been transformed, by joining a Family Stroll on Sunday 19th February organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership.
The walk starts at Lakeside Park, an area that was created by mineral extraction during the 1940s and 1950s. It follows the Basingstoke Canal towpath for a mile or two, before passing on to North Camp station. It then continues down alongside the River Blackwater, through Hollybush Park and Hill - once used as a landfill site, but now important for wildflowers and butterflies - before returning to the start point.
The circular route, covers about 4˝ to 5 miles, is mostly on surfaced paths, so is suitable for pushchairs, buggies and wheelchairs. The pace of this led walk will be gentle and enjoyable, so why not get all the family to come and discover this area of the Blackwater Valley?
Please meet at Lakeside Park car park, off Lakeside Road, Ash, for a 10am start, the walk should last between 2˝ to 3 hours. Suitable warm/wet weather clothing and footwear are recommended. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For more details please ring Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership on 01252 331353.
This walk is part of the ‘Discover the Blackwater Valley 2006 Programme’ organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership and designed to encourage local people to find out more about the countryside on their doorstep.
