GO WILD! – The Countryside in Autumn

Get out and about this September.  Go on a guided walk, search for minibeasts, join a fungi foray or take part in one of the many practical tasks being organised by conservation groups up and down the Blackwater Valley.

‘Go Wild! – The Countryside in Autumn’ has been co-ordinated by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership to encourage residents in the Valley area to learn more about the countryside on their doorstep and what’s involved with looking after it. Over 15 different conservation groups within the area are hosting a variety of events for all of the family, offering everything from pond dipping and bat walks to rhododendron clearance and coppicing.

“We estimate that over 300,000 people live within a mile and a quarter of the River Blackwater, so this September we’re encouraging residents to get out and learn more about the wildlife in their area,” said Sue Dent of the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership. “Conservation groups do a terrific job looking after the wildlife sites up and down the Valley and newcomers and regulars are invited to come along to these events to find out more, both about the sites and the conservation work involved with maintaining them.”

Full details can be found on the Blackwater Valley Countryside partnership website www.blackwater-valley.org.uk or phone 01252 331353 and ask for an events programme.
