Fungi foray & picnic

After our wet summer it promises to be a bumper year for fungi so come along to Frimley Fuel Allotments and join the Conservation Team on Sunday 12th September for a guided walk around the spectacular heathland and woodland. This summer’s prolonged rain has created near perfect conditions for fungi and there’s every chance there will be a excellent crop to find and identify.

The walk passes through Scots pine and birch woodland, which attracts a wide variety of birdlife, so there’s every chance of seeing Blue, Long Tailed, Coal and Great Tits as well as nuthatches, Treecreepers and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, possibly even Britain’s smallest birds the Goldcrest and Firecrest. The heathland area is still ablaze of colour and walkers may see Common Lizards on open areas and Green Woodpeckers feeding on insects on the ground.

If you are interested in learning more about the wildlife of Frimley Fuel Allotments meet at the car park opposite the Ridgewood Centre on the Old Bisley Road, Frimley at 10am on Sunday 12th September. Please wear suitable outdoor shoes and bring along a picnic lunch and a bit more to share. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult This walk is part of the ‘Go Wild! – The Countryside in Autumn’ an event co-ordinated by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership, designed to encourage residents within the Blackwater Valley area to learn more about the countryside on their doorstep and get involved with looking after it.
