We think we spotted a Goldcrest hopping around on a bush, It was a very small brownish coloured, round bodied, mouse-like, bird, smaller than a sparrow or robin and was definitely not a wren as it did not have an upturned tail. It’s very likely that you did see a Goldcrest, there are quite a few in the area you mentioned. Has anyone else seen them?
