Beautiful Butterflies & Other Insects

Common Blue DamselflyEveryone loves the delicate beauty of a butterfly and if you walk anywhere in the Blackwater Valley on a sunny summer day you’re sure to see some of the 32 different species found here. Come along for a
special insect themed guided walk on
Sunday 20th July and see just how many butterflies you can spot, as well as dragonflies, damselflies, grasshoppers crickets… in fact all kinds of insects.

Organised by the Blackwater Valley Speckled WoodCountryside Trust and led by enthusiast Bernard Baverstock of the Camberley
Natural History Society, the walk around Lakeside Nature Reserve, which has a variety of different habitats, starts at 10.30am and should take around 2-2½ hours, depending on the weather and
what’s found. lf conditions are right you could see Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns
and Skippers as well as the familiar Small White and Speckled Wood butterflies.
With so much water in the area look for Emerald and Red-eyed Damselflies as well a
s Hawker and Darter Dragonflies plus a variety of other flying and crawling insects.

Anyone wishing to join the walk should meet for a 10.30am start at Lakeside Nature Reserve car park off Lakeside Road, Ash, GU12  5AA, grid ref: SU 888 517. For more details ring 01252 331353. Please note a magnifying glasses could be useful!
