Identifying Trees in Winter
Leaves are the normal way to identify a particular tree, but how do you identify trees without their leaves? If you join a walk organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust on Sunday 5th December at Frimley Lodge Park you can find out.
Led by Bernard Baverstock of the Trust, who is also chairman of the Camberley Natural History Society, the walk will make you look at trees in their winter state in a totally different way. Bernard will explain the main features to observe that will help you identify trees that all ‘look the same’.
If you would like to come along please phone 01252 331353 to reserve your place, as numbers are limited, it is free although donations to the Trust are most welcome. Please come prepared for the weather and wear suitable clothing and outdoor shoes as the routes could be wet and muddy. Meet outside the pavilion at Frimley Lodge Park, Sturt Road, Frimley Green for a 2pm start, the walk will last 1˝-2 hours and is suitable for all ages; well behaved dogs are also welcome.
This walk is part of a programme of events organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust as part of their ‘Important Trees’ project. This invites members of the public to provide details about any of their special, ancient, favourite or memorable trees or hedgerows in the Blackwater Valley. All the details will be collated and the trees mapped so that eventually there will be enough information to help protect individual or groups of trees and the biodiversity associated with them. For more information about the Important Tree project visit their BVCT website
The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust is a charity registered in 2006. It works closely with the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the Blackwater Valley.
