Watch out for Glow Worms

Glow Worm as seen at night On warm summer evenings look out for tiny lights on the vegetation alongside the path. They are made by the wingless female Glow Worms trying to attract flying males. To be accurate Glow Worms are not worms at all, but 25mm long beetles.

Over the past few years we have received many sighting reports of these insects. mostly seen on the Blackwater Valley Path near the Frimley High Street access point heading south towards Frimley Hatches. But we would like to
know if you’ve seen any this year Glow Worm as it appears
anywhere in the Valley area.
If you have please let us know the details: how many you saw and when and where you saw them giving a grid reference or post code if possible.

All your sightings will then be sent to Robin Scagell of the UK Glow Worm Survey. Robin recently us to let us know that he’d received a report of 10 or more Glow Worms seen at Watchmoor Park Nature Reserve
near the Sainsbury’s store at Camberley. This was the first sighting he’d received for this immediate area and wanted to let us know all about it.

He’s keen to get details of any more sightings in this area so if you can help please do.
