Beetle watch - 1
ASs you take a pleasant evening walk along the Blackwater Valley Path do keep your eyes open to see what wildlife you can spot. You may be surprised...
In particular on warm summer evenings look out for tiny lights on the vegetation alongside the path. They are made by the wingless female Glow-worms trying to attract their flying males. Just in case you were wondering the name is confusing because Glow-worms are not worms at all, but 25mm long beetles.
These pictures by Jane-Louise Bassett were taken along the Blackwater Valley Path near the Frimley High Street access point heading south towards Frimley Hatches. The top picture clearly shows the ‘glow’. The bottom picture, taken with a flash, shows the beetle itself.
