Fungi Foray

FungusFungi is a subject of constant fascination and great confusion, so come along on a walk organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust at Shepherd Meadows on Thursday 14th October walk to find out more about them.

Led by local expert Mike Waterman you will see the different fungi found in the meadows and woodland alongside the Blackwater River. Mike will identify common and rare fungi and you can learn which are edible and which are poisonous. Look for Bracket Fungi growing on dead birch, search for the unmistakable red and white of Fly Agaric, seek out groups of brilliant Sulphur Tufts or the Fly Agaricdistinctive white round Puffballs. Autumn is the high season for fungi but you can never be quite sure what you’ll find.

If you’d like to join the walk please meet at Shepherd Meadows in the Marshall Road car park, off the A321, Sandhurst for a 10am start. Grid ref: SU 848 606. This
area can be very muddy and the route crosses two stiles, so please wear suitable clothing and outdoor shoes. Accompanied children welcome as well as dogs on leads.

The walk is free although donations are most welcome. Organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust,  spaces are limited so please phone 01252 331353 to Fungireserve your place. For more information about the foray
or the Trust please ring 01252 331353
