HEALTH WALK: Windlesham Arboretum   10am - 11am

Walk through the trees, lakes, streams and follies of this little-known private arboretum. Classified as a gentle walk aimed at beginners, this is one of a programme of supervised health walks offered by Surrey Heath Walking for Health. Meet at South Farm Lane, GU18 5RN. Sorry no dogs. WALK: A Date With Nature   9am - 12.30pm

Join the Wokingham and Bracknell branch of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds on a monthly walk around Dinton Pastures Country Park. Suitable for beginners to experienced bird watchers. Children under 18 must be accompanied. Meet in the main car park at Dinton Pastures Country Park. Cost: £1, children free (proceeds to RSPB).
      

Saturday 4th

HANDS-ON CONSERVATION: Bill Hill   11am - 3pm

Join the site ranger at Bill Hill and help clear and conserve this wildlife haven by coppicing Hazel and thinning Rowan and Birch. Suitable for all ages. Children welcome accompanied by an adult. CONSERVATION: Scrub and Spuds From 12 noon

An afternoon of scrub bashing with the Greenspace Team from Surrey Heath Borough Council in the woodlands at Lightwater Country Park. Enjoy baked potatoes cooked on the bonfire afterwards. WALK: Paths Lost and Found, Peacock Farm and Copses  10am

Get active and keep fit. Take a steady walk for 3 miles at 3 mph on this monthly walk on the second Wednesday of every month. EXHIBITION: Routes & Trees Photo Competition 2011

Come and view the winning and best selected entries from the ‘Routes and Trees’ themed Parks Photo Competition 2011 run by Bracknell Forest Council. The impressive pictures were taken by Bracknell’s budding amateur photographers. Exhibition at South Hill Parks Arts Centre, Ringmead, Bracknell, Berkshire RG12 7PA.
 
 

Sunday 12th

WALK: Friend’s of Lavell’s Lake Bird Walk    9am - 12 noon

Lavell’s Lake is rich in bird life, which is attracted to the now much extended reed beds, shallow scrapes and quiet surroundings. Bittern Hide offers extensive seating and standing room overlooking Tern Scrape, whilst Teal Hide offers great views over the scrape and a fine Sand Martin Wall. On the second Sunday of every month join the Friends of Lavell’s Lake for a walk around the Park. Cost: Members free, donation of £1 for non-members. A circular walk along mostly man-made tracks, through trees and skirting the lake. FAMILY ACTIVITY: Build a Bird Box for your Garden   From 11am

Join a member of the Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Greenspace Team and build a bird box for your garden. Everything supplied, but extra hammers welcome. Costs £6 per box. FAMILY ACTIVITY: South Hill Park Storywalk 12.30pm, 2pm & 3pm

Travel through time and discover the many marvellous, mysterious and slightly spooky tales of South Hill Park as your explore the grounds with a professional storyteller Red Phoenix. Try your hand at making a range of bird boxes for wildlife at Northerams Wood during National Nest Box Week. These boxes will later be installed at the woodland to provide homes for our feathered friends. Suitable for all ages. Booking required. FAMILY ACTIVITY: Celebrating Woods Day   10am - 3pm

Enjoy a fantastic day in the woods with traditional woodland crafts, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. Try out the ancient skill of hazel coppicing. Other activities include wood turning, hurdle making, hedge laying, green chair making, Morris dancing, family-friendly treasure trail, BBQ, miniature steam railway rides, green gardening and wood products for sale. Saturday 18th

FAMILY WORKSHOP: Build a Bird  Box  10.30am - 1pm

The British Trust for Ornithology’s National Nest Box Weeks starts on St Valentine’s Day and now’s the time to build nest boxes to replicate birds’ natural homes. Join Bernard Baverstock and other members of the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust at the Ash Centre, Ash Hill Road (B3411) Ash to build a bird box, then take it home so you can enjoy nesting birds in your own garden. Each box will cost £5 to include an information sheet on siting and maintenance. All materials are provided, but if possible please bring a hammer with you. Children welcome with their parents. WALK: The Countryside in Winter - Englemere & Swinley Circuit 10.30am - 1pm

One of a series of regular mid-week walks, today it is a ‘Rambler’ walk, which will cover up to 7 miles and take about 2½ hours.

WALK: Basingstoke Canal Towpath Walk   10am - 11am

Follow the peaceful canal towpath on this gentle one hour walk up to the lock-keeper’s cottage with wildlife spotting en route.
