Tuesday 1st

WALK: The Countryside in Winter - Rapley Lake  10.30am-1pm

One of a series of regular mid-week walks, today it is a ‘Rambler’ walk, which will cover up to 7 miles and take about 2½ hours.

WALK: A Date With Nature   9am–12.30pm

Join the Wokingham and Bracknell branch of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds on a monthly walk around Dinton Pastures Country Park. Suitable for beginners to experienced bird watchers. Children under 18 must be accompanied. Meet in the main car park at Dinton Pastures Country Park. Cost: £1, children free (proceeds to RSPB).

EXHIBITION: Local Parks Photo Competition 2010

Come and view the winning images from the Local Parks Photo Competition 2010 run by Bracknell Forest Council. The theme was Biodiversity in Bracknell to commemorate 2010 being the International Year of Biodiversity. The impressive pictures were taken by Bracknell’s budding amateur photographers. Check out the 2010 winners on www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/parksinpictures and get snapping for the 2011 competition.

TALK: Astronomy  7pm

Wednesday 9th

WALK: Forest Park Foray  10am

Get active and keep fit. Take a steady walk for 3 miles at 3 mph on this monthly walk on the second Wednesday of every month. This month meet at Savernake car park, off Savernake Way, Bracknell RG12 0UX. Organised by Bracknell Forest Rangers. WALK: Wildfowl at Frimley  10am-12.30pm

What kind of birds are on the flooded gravel pits and adjacent managed meadow land at Frimley Hatches this time of year? Join this walk and find out. Colin Wilson of the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust will be leading the walk and you could see Gadwalls, Great Crested Grebes, Tufted Ducks, Pochards and even a Kingfisher.  Expect a fairly easy walk, but it might be muddy with wet knee-high vegetation so come prepared. TALK: The Day it Rained Crabs & Frogs  7.30-9.30pm

Sunday 13th

WALK: Friend’s of Lavell’s Lake Bird Walk  9am-12 noon

Lavell’s Lake is rich in bird life, which is attracted to the now much extended reed beds, shallow scrapes and quiet surroundings. Bittern Hide offers extensive seating and standing room overlooking Tern Scrape, whilst Teal Hide offers great views over the scrape and a fine Sand Martin Wall. On the second Sunday of every month join the Friends of Lavell’s Lake for a walk around the Park. Cost: Members free, donation of £1 for non-members. Meet: Sandfords Lane car park opposite the Black Swan Sailing Club, Dinton Pastures Country Park, Davis Street, Hurst, Berks RG10 0TH.
 

Saturday 19th

FAMILY WORKSHOP: Make a Bird Nest Box  10am - 1pm

The British Trust for Ornithology’s National Nest Box Weeks starts on St Valentine’s Day. It’s the time of year to build nest boxes to replicate birds’ natural homes that are now in short supply as the countryside and gardens get tidier. Join Bernard Baverstock and other members of the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust at he FB Centre, Gorse Road North, Finchampstead RG40 4ES to build a bird box, then take it home so you can enjoy nesting birds in your own garden. Each box will cost £5 to  include an information sheet on siting and maintenance and a free hole protector that would normally cost £2.50. All materials are provided, but if possible please bring a hammer with you. Children welcome with their parents. CRAFTS: Design a Dream Catcher   10am-4pm

Make and decorate your very own dream catcher! The Native Americans believe a dream catcher traps the bad dreams and only allows the good dreams through. Tuesday 22nd

CRAFTS: Puppet Making   11am & 2pm

Come and make your own puppet at Dinton Pastures. Design the pattern and colours for your very own hand-made toy. Children under eight must be accompanied. WILD ONES CRAFT/ ACTIVITY: Bugs! Up Close and Personal
10am-12 noon

Hunt for mini beasts in the undergrowth at Westmorland Park and then get the chance to see them live on camera and larger than life through a microscope and projector. Bug expert Martin Woolner will also be on hand to reveal the amazing and gruesome stories of these creatures. Best suited for 3-11 year olds. Bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Thursday 24th
 

WALK: Transport Links of Tongham & Ash  10am-1pm

Come and discover some of the rural paths east of Tongham on a pleasant five-mile guided walk. For anyone wanting to explore the area this walk offers the perfect opportunity. Just a few minutes from both Ash and Tongham there is a wealth of countryside and the route follows part of the old railway track. Walking mostly on level and surfaced paths, the route does include some potentially very muddy field paths, so weather clothing and suitable footwear are recommeneded. Organised by the BV Walkers’ Link meet at Coronation Gardens car park, Ash Hill Road (opposite the Victoria Hall) Ash GU12 5DN. Dogs permitted but please keep on a lead where advised.
