Farley Hill walk
This summer may have been non-existent, but we’ve been extremely luckuy with the weather on our walk days, and the walk round Farley Hill on Wednesday 3rd September was no exception. There were 13 of us in all and we enjoyed a most pleasant rural walk led by GIll.
Farley Hill is on the northern edge of the Valley, roughly between Swallowfield and Finchampsterad. It is a very rural area and the route took us along country roads and paths through fields and woodland. Unlike most of the rest of the Valley, which is fairly flat, this walk too us ‘up hill and down dale’, but it meant we did enjoy some lovely views.
Starting from the cricket ground at Farley Hill we walked along some country lanes before eventually reaching the Blackwater Valley Path. It was lovely to walk alongside the river and with the sun out it was very pleasant.
On leaving the river we headed back up into the surrounding countryside and passed through fields before stopping briefly by a bench for a refreshment stop. It was then onwards through more fields with some spectacular views towards Reading, before following numerous woodland pathways which eventually took us back to our starting point.
