Rural Route Round Farley Hill

Rural scene at the northern end of the Valley Get away from the traffic and the hustle and bustle of urban life and discover one of the most rural parts of the Blackwater Valley on a circular walk organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership on Wednesday 3rd September.

Starting from Farley Hill the walk will give participants a chance to enjoy the area’s peaceful countryside landscapes as they walk along the country lanes and footpaths, with an opportunity to see  some the local wildlife. The route will take in many shady byways, including the Blackwater Valley Path, which follows the river for a short while. Altogether the walk will cover about five miles and will last about2½-3 hours.

Bring along binoculars because there’s a good chance you’ll see some Red Kite, a very graceful bird of prey with a reddish-brown body, angled wings and deeply forked tail that is often seen in this area. By the late 1700s Red Kite were virtually hunted to extinction, but following a reintroduction programme in the 1980s numbers are gradually increasing.

Come along for a 10am start, meeting in Church Lane, Farley Hill, Berkshire. There is roadside parking opposite the cricket ground, grid ref SU 753 646 which is not far fro the A327. Wet weather clothing/sunscreen plus suitable clothing and footwear are recommended. The going will be relatively flat. Any children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For more details ring 01252 331353 or visit www.blackwater-valley.org.uk.

This walk is organised by the BV Walkers’ Link , which aims to keep members informed about the walks and walking groups in the Blackwater Valley area whilst regularly providing advice and encouragement about walking.  Membership costs £13pa and anyone interested in finding out more can write to Walkers’ Link, Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership, Ash Lock Cottage, Government Road, Aldershot GU11 2PS.
