Eversley Walk

Our second walk of the year was on Wednesday 19th March exploring the area around Eversley with its literary connections to Charles Kingsley (he was the rector at St Mary’s Church, for 31 years and is bured in the churchyard).

A group of 27 assembled on the green outside St Mary’s Church, Eversley before setting off to join the Three Castle Path, a long distance route from Windsor to Winchester, some of the views were stunning (see top picture on the right). This took us into Bramshill Forest and once here we joined the Welsh Drive (see picture centre right), an historic route used by Welsh drovers when they brought they cattle to the markets in London; Blackwater was once the site of an important November cattle market.

Continuing on through Bramshill - where the paths were very wet and muddy in places - we eventually reached the River Blackwater at the New Mill Ford where we took a short break. The New Mill restaurant is pictured bottom right.

After a  short refreshment stop we followed the Blackwater Path east to Eversley Street, then headed past Warbrook House Hotel and through the open countryside before returning via the churchyard to our starting point.

We were delighted with the turnout and were pleased to see so many new faces. Let’s hope there will be just an many for our next walk on Saturday 19th April.
