Birds, Birds, Birds...
Woodpeckers and warblers, Treecreepers and Nuthatches… If you’re interested in birds then come along on a special guided bird walk organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust on Wednesday 16th April and find out more about the many birds found at Rowhill Nature Reserve.
Covering 55 acres, Rowhill Nature Reserve lies on the Surrey/Hampshire borders and consists of mixed woodland, a four-acre meadow, ponds, streams, a bog – the source of the River Blackwater – and about eight acres of heathland. This very diverse habitat supports a wide variety of flora and fauna and spring is a good time to look and listen for the many woodland birds and migrants found here.
Led by Colin Wilson the walk will last about two and a half hours – depending on the weather and the birds seen. Bring binoculars if you have them and see how many different species you can spot. Wear suitable clothing and footwear as the route could be muddy in places. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, but no dogs please.
Please meet for a 9.30am start at Rowhill Nature Reserve located off Cranmore Lane, Aldershot by the junction of the A325, where there is limited parking. Admission is free – though donations to the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust would be most welcome. For more details contact the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership on 01252 331353 or visit www.blackwater-valley.org.uk.
