Birds in the Blackwater Valley

Stonechat by Colin HumphreyHow do you tell the difference between a Chiffchaff and a Reed Warbler? What’s the difference between a Stonechat and a Whinchat?

Over 200 different species of bird have been recorded in the Blackwater Valley, everything from the familiar Robin and Blackbird to the less Common Red Kite and Goosander. Now you have an opportunity to find out how to identify some of them at an informal Bird Identification workshop at the Canal Centre in Mytchett on Monday 19th April. Organised by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust (BVCT) the evening is led by Colin Wilson – Trustee of the BVCT and a member of the Berkshire Ornithological Club – who will use both bird song and pictures to help you identify all kinds of different birds.

Anyone interested in attending should phone 01252 331353 to book their place. Although the workshop is free to Trust members there is a suggested donation of £2 per person and guests are very welcome. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start; the Canal Centre is located at Mytchett Place Road, Mytchett Surrey GU16 6DD

Launched in 2006, the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust is a charitable organisation which seeks to raise funds to enhance the Blackwater Valley for the benefit of the people and wildlife in the area.
