Aldershot walk
The early morning mist disappeared quickly and by the time our walk on Sunday 28th September was due to start the sun was shining brightly. In fact it was a fabulous day and all 11 of us throroughly enjoyed the walk.
Starting from Bourley Road car park Adrian, our walk leader, led us off into the heathland and woodland. Our first unusual encounter of the day was with a group of soldiers doing some training - they were wearing a rather natty line in headgear, adorned with grass! Shortly afterwards we encountered a second group, this time minus the hats but running and carrying heavy back packs - rather them than us!
The route followed well defined tracks before we cut into woodland and eventually crossed Bourley Road itself. The route was now a steady climb up towards Caesar’s Camp, although we saw the first of several reservoir lakes used to supply Aldershot Military Town with water. The climb up to Caesar’s Camp, at about 600ft above sea level, afforded splendid view over the Valley. It was a little hazy but still spectacular.
After a brief rest it was all downhill, crossing through the heathland ‘heights’ before going back into woodland and down past more reservoirs and returning to the start point. All in all a walk of surprising contrasts and well worth the effort. Christine Reeves BV Link Co-ordinator
